Our Curriculum

We are continually delivering an exciting, engaging curriculum for our children through the experiences we provide, the resources they use, the interactions that we build into their play and the moments of ‘direct teaching’ that occur throughout the day.

Outdoor Learning

The children have daily access to our outdoor spaces, which are designed to compliment learning and development across all areas of the curriculum. We deliver weekly Forest School sessions and the children enjoy frequent trips around the local area and to our nearby parks. They participate in weekly ‘Playball’ sessions and enjoy exploring basic mathematical and scientific concepts when engaging in play at our local play beach.

Pre-Phonics Learning

We deliver a fun and active pre-phonics programme, designed to help children build the critical knowledge and skills required for formal phonics learning. Our systematic approach ensures children are listening, looking, remembering, matching, copying, sorting, and explaining their understanding. These are all essential skills to learn on the journey to becoming a reader.

French

Learning a foreign language at a very young age can increase children’s critical thinking skills, creativity, and flexibility of mind. French is taught at The Crown Nursery through songs, games, multi-sensory experiences, story-telling, and drama, all of which are designed to help develop the children’s skills and bring the language to life for our little learners.

Cookery

Regular cooking opportunities provide numerous benefits in all areas of the curriculum; looking at recipes and following instructions enhance literacy skills; counting and measuring develop the understanding of mathematical concepts; chopping and stirring help develop find motor control in preparation for writing. Children also learn about healthy eating habits and are encouraged to try the new foods they have helped to prepare.

Music and Movement

Children enjoy daily musical activities and weekly sessions with Singing Susan, our music teacher. They engage with music through listening, singing, moving, and playing instruments, expressing themselves and responding in a variety of ways. They are given opportunities throughout the year to perform for family and friends, which supports social and emotional development, improves communication and language skills and fosters creativity and imagination.
